David Anthony Burke, who often goes by D4vd, has been the topic of many conversations recently–and, no, it’s not about a new album.
D4vd first gained popularity through his hit singles “Here with Me” and “Romantic Homicide,” ones that have circulated fast, particularly on Tiktok back in 2022. Since then, he’s continued to make music that’s familiarized his name among teenage audiences. In fact, students here at Sewanhaka have grown fond of his work over the years. One senior, Deodath Uzagir, remarks “I knew him a fair bit–I used to really like listening to his songs and would almost never skip them!”
The aforementioned publicity surge regards romantic homicidal allegations–no pun intended. Celeste Rivas Hernandez was a 15 year-old girl who, a year prior, was the subject of a missing person’s report. On September 8th, 2025, she was found and declared dead, according to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner. Her decomposed body was discovered in the trunk of an impounded Tesla, whose name was registered to a David Anthony Burke. The state of which her body was found is still disclosed and under investigation, formally titled “deferred.” The car had been towed to a lot in Hollywood for several weeks, so investigators acknowledge that Hernandez’s body may have been idle for weeks upon discovery.
Naturally, the public is questioning D4vd’s involvement with the case, including whether he even knew Hernandez. Many point out a set of matching tattoos the pair has reading “Sshh” on either index finger, according to Fox 11 News, and inquire whether D4vd’s unreleased songs are about her. One Sewanhaka student, Isabel Montenegro, shares her general take on the case, quoting that “I think what happened to Celeste was tragic. Her story needs to be shared to teach the dangers of talking to strangers, especially if they are much older than you.” Deodath reflects after the fact, admitting, “Everytime I look at my playlist or one of his songs, I recall the scandal and it genuinely makes me not want to listen anymore.”
Currently, no one is being considered as an official subject for her death, nor has it been declared a homicide, despite buzz. As more details reveal themselves, we can only hope for the best outcome, and put any new album concerns on standby.
