At the end of October 2025, Sewanhaka High School welcomed a new Sports Athletics Chairperson, Mr. Petricca. This announcement was a surprise to all Sewanhaka students. I took this opportunity to interview Mr. Petricca on his new position at Sewanhaka and find out more about him and some of the changes to Physical Education classes at Sewanhaka.
Mr.Petricca is a radiant man, with a clear passion. He strives to bring positive change to Sewanhaka in a meaningful manner. When asked how long he has been in the district, to my surprise he replied that he has been living in the district for 28 years, and working in education for over 40 years. There is no ambiguity about his expertise or vast experience when it comes to physical education.
When asked how he felt about having to adjust into his new role as a director after classes had already begun, he replied it wasn’t easy. He had to learn to adjust into a new setting, all the while implementing new ideas, and still maintaining the proper structure of the athletic department. This happened all in the span of a one week timeframe. Despite this, he expressed that he has received generous support from parents and students in his new position. He said that he has begun hitting the ground running, getting done what he needs to ensure a successful transition.
Mr. Petricca also made note of wanting to bring to Sewanhaka what he coined as “Raven Pride” for all students. He intends to celebrate student-athletes’ achievements, and shedding a spotlight on season highlights. He also shared that he hopes to make it exciting for all students, whether this be in their gym classes, or while out at practice.
At the end of the interview, I asked what he would like to say to the Sewanhaka students and staff. Mr. Petricca responded with an enthusiastic tone, highlighting his excitement in becoming a part of the Sewanhaka community, and that he has already adjusted wonderfully with the students. This has been seen in the hallways with students waving and high fiving him. With Mr. Petricca’s cheerful personality, and zealous attitude about physical education, Sewanhaka’s athletic department is headed toward a positive future!
