After the smashing success of their latest musical Footloose!, the directors of the Sewanhaka musical have decided to switch to a different avenue: drama. Ms. Winter, vocal director of the play says, “We just really wanted to give the kids a chance to experiment and let their talent shine.” For Ms. Lamb, the director, the choice seemed clear. Ms. Lamb stated, “When we were deciding on what to pursue next year, one title came straight to both of us.” The title she’s referring to is Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf.
Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf, a 1962 play by Edward Albee, is a drama that centers on a middle-aged couple, George and Martha, as they spend an evening with a younger couple, Nick and Honey. However, there is a large issue with the production of this play. There are only four characters.

But this did not stop the resourceful duo. “We decided to make a bold creative decision and cast the students as furniture. Not only would this save money on props, but every student gets to have a part,” said Ms. Lamb. Ms. Winter added, “Some of the kids are so talented, nobody will notice the difference between them and a lamp.” For anyone who wants to be in the play, auditions will be held in the auditorium from Monday to Wednesday after school next week. Mr. Roesler, who has been in two previous productions, has already accepted the part of the carpet on which the characters stand for the majority of the play.
