This year’s senior banquet brought together the Class of 2026 to celebrate their achievements and journey throughout high school in a night filled with making memories. The event was held on November 12 at Plattduetsche Park in Franklin Square, where the venue was lined with decorations like balloons and a bright senior sign to take photos in front of.
Once everyone had taken the time to take pictures and indulge in appetizers upon entry, long trays of food started to arrive. They enjoyed a variety of foods from tortellini to lemon chicken, with additional sides like Caesar salad. Afterwards, students joined together on the dance floor accompanied by a DJ to celebrate with classic party hits like “On the Floor” by Jennifer Lopez and “Dynamite” by Taio Cruz. The dance segment lasted for the majority of the night, with people forming conga lines and dance circles to keep the exciting night going.
The night did not just consist of taking pictures and enjoying dinner with friends, though. The Class of 2026’s advisors, Mr. Reagan and Mr. Herrle, announced the long-awaited winners of the Senior Superlatives. Students received awards like “Best Sisterhood,” “Most Athletic,” and “Class Clown” after a class vote that occurred just a few weeks ago. Fatima Khan, the president of the Class of 2026 who won “Most Photogenic” and “Social Butterfly,” says, “I’m honored, I just love capturing memories and connecting with people, so winning both feels like the perfect combo.” Seniors were also given additional rewards through raffles, which included gift cards and Squishmallow stuffed animals.
The banquet ended with chocolate cake and final dances, as seniors said their goodbyes to one another for the night. Several students met up the next morning to enjoy breakfast together at the Stop 20 Diner, reflecting on the event and the rest of their last year at Sewanhaka. Nonetheless, the senior banquet marks the beginning of the end of the Class of 2026’s spirited high school journeys.
