Latin America has a long and rich history with dancing, which perfectly reflects the diversity of the region. Its dances are inspired by dances from Europe, Africa, and its own Indigenous people. In order to spread and promote the tradition and culture of Latin America as part of World Languages Week, Señora Madruga, a Spanish teacher here at Sewanhaka, invited kids on the stage in the auditorium to learn dances from March 5th to March 9th. The students learned the salsa, the merengue, and the bachata, all originating from Latin America. During the lessons Señora Madruga emphasized that these dances were not only a way for them to learn about and get in touch with Hispanic culture, but also a way to have fun. Here are a few highlights from the event.
