With the start of a new year, movie fanatics are eager to discover what new movies will be released in 2026. And the lineup is looking incredibly promising. This year we will be seeing movies ranging from super-hero blockbusters to adaptations of literary novels; fingers crossed the directors do justice for all us book fans.
“Project Hail Mary” starring Ryan Gosling, is set to release March 20, Gosling will be playing the role of an astronaut Ryland Grace: a character who finds himself waking from a coma to only be tasked with saving the Earth’s sun and solar system. Quite the mission if I do say so myself. It is based on a 2021 science fiction novel of the same name by American writer Andy Weir.
Now if you are looking for a movie to watch during the Valentine’s Day weekend with your loved one, then I would keep an eye out for the release of a tragic dark romance starring Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi. This romance movie is said to be highly anticipated being an adaptation of Emily Brontë’s gothic novel “Wuthering Heights”. Now this author might sound familiar, as she is also the author of Jane Eyre, and many more classical literary works. The anticipation is strong for this movie, as adapting literary fiction is not an easy task. Especially for a novel that isn’t straightforward, as it spans decades and has a multi-generational narrative. Previous adaptations have failed to fully address Brontë’s portrayal of a dark saga, instead they have tended to focus on the doomed romance aspect of the storyline.
For all those music lovers, especially pop music, a biography for Michael Jackson is set to release April 24, featuring his nephew as the King of Pop in “Michael”. We might also get answers to some controversy that was left unaddressed for decades, so definitely keep a lookout for this biopic.
Marvel fans should start getting excited for the release of “Avengers:Doomsday”, featuring the return of Robert Downey Jr. in the Marvel Universe after nearly 7 years! Doomsday is set to release on December 18, and will be having a crossover everyone should be excited to watch during the holiday season. X-Men and the Fantastic Four characters will be coming together for a major battle. Additionally, beloved MCU actors Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Anthony Mackie, and Chris Evans are re-appearing on the big screen once again all together.
For people looking for a more thrilling and exciting movie that will have them on the edge of their seats, they should be looking out for the release of “Send Help”, set to release just this month: January 30, 2026. The plot is wrapped around being a survival horror thriller. Now I don’t want to spoil much but this movie does take place right after a plane crash, where we follow the story of two survivors on a stranded island. Their journey is filled with suspense, battles, and conflict. Being directed by Sam Raimi, who is a renowned horror film director; classics such as Evil Dead, and Drag Me to Hell. He also has directed the original Spider-Man series starring Tobey Maguire. Thus, his writing and film-making career definitely puts this upcoming movie to a higher standard.
Another horror movie, but this time around with hints of romance. “Bride” will follow the story of Scientist Dr. Euphronious, who brought back to life a woman to be a companion for Frankenstein’s monster. It’s said to be a punk-infused take on the 1935 “Bride of Frankenstein”, and is being directed by Maggie Gyllenhaal.
The next movie is not much of a mystery, with how much circulation has been created since its trailer’s release, especially with the familiar faces of the two main leads of the show: Zendaya and Robert Pattinson. “The Drama” is set to release on April 3; a romantic dramedy that tells the story of an engaged couple who have a major revelation right before their wedding, throwing the couple into a tailspin.
The final movie in our lineup is about to bring out the nostalgic memories for nearly everyone. After 6 years we are getting the release of “Toy Story 5”, featuring Buzz, Woody, and Jessie facing a new whimsical challenge. The plot follows the toys fighting for the future of all toys, who have been sidelined due to the rise of a tech-obsessed world. Set to be released on June 19, I know my calendar is marked.
