On April 30th of 2026, Sewanhaka High School hosted its annual Spring Blood Drive for eligible donors 16 years of age or older. SHS students donated 38 pints of blood during the event. Since each pint can save up to 3 lives, the donations helped save approximately 108 lives.
The Blood Drive was organized by the Real World Learning students and FCCLA members in collaboration with the student body. While some students donated blood, others volunteered to help coordinate and organize the event. The blood drive demonstrated leadership, teamwork, and community involvement while providing an important service to those in need. Regarding the event, Ms. Amaris said, “Sewanhaka students once again demonstrated the power of compassion, leadership, and community. I am incredibly proud of our student body for showing up to donate blood and support those in need. Their willingness to give back reflects the very best of who we are as a school community — selfless, caring, and committed to making a difference”

The decision to donate blood can be a hard choice to make, but for some students, like Preston Ligonde, it came easy. After donating blood, he said, “I know what it’s like when life throws unexpected challenges at you, and if giving a little of myself can help someone else get through theirs, that’s something I’m always going to show up for. It only took a few minutes, but it could mean everything to someone who needs it.”
Special thanks were also extended to all of the faculty and staff members who donated and helped make the event successful.
